SNAIL Adhesive - Manufacturer Change

Hello Stampers!

Stampin' Up! has advised us of the following change made to the 'Snail' adhesive that we sell - as follows:

Small Change to Snail Adhesive July 31, 2012
We just wanted to give you a heads up that we're switching the type of liner used in the Snail Adhesive. This new liner is tinted blue and thinner than the previous liner making the roll appear to have less adhesive. Rest assured that you're still getting the same amount of adhesive; the only change is the liner itself due to the supplier no longer carrying the current liner.

So - when you receive your Snail, if it looks a bit different - not to worry!  It's just the liner that has changed.  I'm still using up my supply of the existing Snail -so if you've received the new Snail, and would like to share your feedback, please feel free to leave your comment here! :)

REMINDERS - Registration is still open for the upcoming 'Birthday Bash' card class on August 11th! There are 4 spots left - so HURRY - save your spot NOW!  Call or email me at 604.298.0472 or debsmart@shaw.ca

                      - Tomorrow is the 1st day of the NEW HOLIDAY CATALOGUE!  I just got my box of goodies late today - so I'll be posting new pictures tomorrow!  Let me know where I can send you your copy of the catalogue!

An Impartial View on Stampin' Up!

Hello Stampers!

There's a recent article that was brought to my attention - it was written by someone who is not employed in any way by Stampin' Up!, who was invited to attention our recent Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I'd like to share the link with you, because I think it's great to see an "outsiders" view of not just a Stampin' Up! event, but they also give their impression(s) of the company and it's products.

Please - have a read!  I'd love to hear your comments :)

http://www.scrapbookupdate.com/2012/07/27/events-2012-stampin-up-convention

Later, I'll be posting some pictures and details about my upcoming class.  Until then -

Happy Stamping!

Gift Card Holders

Hello Stampers!

Well, a few days ago I told you that I would show you the gift card holders that I made for my friend's birthday, so here we go!

This first one I sort of made up as I went along

I started with a piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock at 4 1/4" x 11"
Then score 3" in from each end, and also in the middle (at 5 1/2")
Fold at the score lines, so you get a 'W' shape.
Put adhesive along the bottom 2 outside pieces , adhering them all together (I used our red line sticky tape - no worry about it falling apart!)
Using your small circle punch, punch a 1/2 circle at the top of the middle section (to pull the gift card out).  You'll have to punch hard - going through 2 layers of cardstock!
Then, slit open the centre fold, and insert the gift card.
Finally - decorate as you like - I used some pretty paper and ribbon left over our Sale-a-bration!.

Here, you can see how the ribbon unties, and there's the gift card in the centre!

For this next gift card  holder, I used a tutorial made by the talented SU! demonstrator Lorri Heiling; the tutorial can be found here http://stampingaddict.blogspot.ca/search/label/SWAK

It's a super cute holder, especially since I tucked a Starbucks gift card inside :)

I used Whisper White cardstock as the base, embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  For the 'sleeve' in the middle, I used Close to Cocoa card stock, embossed with the Stripes embossing folder.  I used the NEW Layered Labels stamp set with the matching Apothecary Accents Framelits die, popped up with dimensionals on top over the super cute 1/2" Scallop Dots Ribbon in Cherry Cobbler.

These were such fun to make, I will definitely be making more!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing these gift card holders - if you'd like to join a class to make some of these, or other projects, leave me a message here, or email me at debsmart@shaw.ca or call me at 604 298 0472 to join the fun & get creative!!  (wouldn't these be perfect for those Christmas gift cards you'll be buying soon?!?!)

Until next time,
Happy Stamping!

Tri Shutter fold Card

Well, it's Sunday night - and that means that the weekend laziness comes to an end tomorrow!  Although actually, with my boys on summer vacation from school, our regular schedule is kind of out the window, too!  Not such a bad thing, actually.  Aside from the usual chores, it's nice to be able to do what we want, when we want (except for my hubby, who still has to go to work Monday - Friday!)
Yesterday I had a wonderful dinner with my BFF - celebrating her birthday!  My oldest son went to a  'Slash' concert (he's the guitarist for Guns 'n' Roses) which he enjoyed immensely.  We dropped him off and picked him up, as it was downtown Vancouver, and even though he is 17, I'm still 'protective'!
Anyway - I promised to share with you the card that I made for my friend's birthday - here it is, a special tri shutter fold card!  This is how the card looks open:

I just love this style of card - it's a great 'WOW' card, that isn't all that difficult to make.
I used the tutorial for it ,made by a fellow demonstrator named LeAnn Greff - you can check out her great website at www.flowerbug.typepad.com
Basically, you start with a base cardstock of  5 ½" X 12". Score on the long side at 2", 4", 8" & 10". Next you’ll need to cut the slits along the horizontal or long sides. Using a Fiskars type paper cutter (or a ruler and exacto knife) insert the card stock to cut it 1 ¼" from the edge cutting from the 2" mark to the 10" mark. Do this for the opposite side too. Now make the folds as in the pictureYou can adhere your choices of DSP and embellishments as shown.  Here, I used the new 'Floral District' designer series paper on each end and the middle sections (bottom & top) and for the butterflies (die cut using the Big Shot and the Beautiful Wings Embosslits die).  The stamps are the large main flower you may recognize from 'Betsy's Blossoms', and I coloured, stamped and punched the 2 end butterflies using the new 'Papillon Potpourri' stamp set and 'Elegant Butterfly' punch. The sentiments are from  a retired Birthday set.  You can see I sponged the edges of the Whisper White cardstock with the sentiments with the new Raspberry Ripple ink, also used to stamp the sentiments.

Here's how the card looks closed - so it does fit into our standard A2 card envelopes.

Well, that's it for tonight.  Tomorrow I'll show you the 2 cute gift card holders I made!

I hope you like the card as much as my friend did! If you make one yourself, I'd love to see a picture of it - I could even post it here for you! :)  Send me a copy, along with your contact info to stampandcreate@shaw.ca   I look forward to seeing your creations!

Until tomorrow,
Happy Stamping!

A Reason to Smile

Good evening, stampers! (or morning, or afternoon - depending when you're reading this!)
I hope that wherever you are, you're having as nice weather as we are here - hot & sunny - perfect summer weather :)

Today I was busy making a birthday card for my BFF - but I'm giving it to her tomorrow, so I won't post it quite yet!  Instead, I'll share with you a card I made with a new, Special Limited Edition set - 'A Reason to Smile'

This great stamp set is ONLY AVAILABLE FROM JULY 1st - 31st for ONLY $5 with any order of $60 or more (before s/h & taxes) - in your choice of either wood or clear mount!!  What a deal!!

Here's a picture of what you get in the set

And here's the 'For You' card I made.  I had made it for one of my son's teachers (one of the perks of being a SU! demonstrator - I got to order mine early!) to give with a year end gift.

Recipe: Whisper White card base; 1st layer: Cherry Cobbler card stock, embossed with the 'Polka Dots' embossing folder; 2nd Layer: Whisper white card stock, stamped with the 'A Reason to Smile'  large flowers in Raspberry Ripple (back 2) and Primrose Petals, the smaller flowers in Raspberry Ripple, and the leaves are from the Papaya Collage stamp set. I 'bunched' the 1/2" Scallop Dots Ribbon in Cherry Cobbler across the bottom, and popped up the 'For You' sentiment on dimensionals.  The sentiment I stamped with the new 'Layered Labels' stamp, and die cut it with the matching 'Apothecary Accents Framelits Dies'.  I tell you - I love the framelits that match the stamp sets!!  It makes stamping and cutting so quick, and so professional looking! :)  To finish off the card, I adhered 3 small pearl accents in the left corner.

Now - if you want to own this versatile stamp set for only $5.00 - you have to act quickly!!  Here's how to order:

I'm Back - with New Creations!

Hello Stampers!!

I know - I've been gone for over a month, and I'm reaaaally sorry!  I have to admit - I was in a bit of a creative slump, then was busy with family visiting from Scotland - but now I'm back, and with NEW creations with NEW fabulous Stampin' Up! products!

Before I show you my first new card, I just want to remind you of the great new Hostess Benefits (posted below) if you hold a party with me.  Don't want to call it a "party"?  Call it a "private class"!!  Invite your friends, offer some basic refreshments (juice/tea/coffee with cookies, perhaps), and I'll provide the entertainment (I've been told I have a good sense of humour!), and the great project to make with the latest Stampin' Up! stamps, colours and cardstocks.  And if your friends place a total qualifiying order , you as Hostess get the benefits!
Send me an email at debsmart@shaw.ca , or a call at 604 298 0472  to set up your party/private class today!

Here's one the new stamp sets I've been lovin' -

This great new set is called "Happy Hour", and is perfect for all kinds of celebrations - Birthday, Wedding, Congratulations - it even has a Christmas/New Year's sentiment stamp!

Recipe: Base - Very Vanilla cardstock  First Layer - Old Olive cardstock 1st Panel - Cherry Cobler cardstock  2nd Panel - Floral District DSP (item#126919 pg.163)  Inks: Summer Starfruit (ink pad and marker), Midnight Muse (ink pad & marker), Raspberry Ripple (ink pad & marker).
I stamped the '3 Cheers for You'  sentiment in Raspberry Ripple on a scrap of WW c/s, then cut the ends to look like a banner, and popped it, and the drink glasses, up with dimensionals.

Here's what you get in the "Happy Hour" set (item #126640 wood $36.95 or #126642 clear $26.95)

I just know that you'll fall in love with the new 'In Colours', as I have!  Let me know what you think - do you have a favourite new colour?  I love to hear your opinion!

I've been creating more, so I promise to post another new card again tomorrow.
Until then
